Rid Yourself Of Spammers NOW!!

Windows Vista is here, for better or worse...

I recently decided it was time to install Windows Vista, dual-booting it with trusty old Windows XP. Windows Vista isn’t half bad after you get rid of the annoying UAC prompts. User Account Control (UAC) is a technology and security infrastructure first introduced with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system. Other than that I actually like the simplicity, functions and the really kool look of Vista!

Apart from this easily fixed annoyance, I have faced no other real problems with Vista. I actually like Vista’s update center far better than XP’s as it gives you a lot more information and also allows manufacturers to release updates and drivers. Much better than having to download and install drivers separately.

Here's how to disable those annoying UAC prompts:

  • Open up Control Panel, and type in user account into the search box. You'll see the link for "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off". Click it. Uncheck the box, and reboot your computer. You should be done with obnoxious prompts!
  • Now, Microsoft highly recommends that you do not do this. To make their point, after you ignore them and do it anyway, a scary little red X shield icon plants itself in your taskbar, visually screaming at you about the security risk.
  • Here's how to get rid of the "red X". In your Control Panel, go to the Security Center. On the left hand side, click the "Change the way Security Center alerts me" and choose "Don't notify me and don't display the icon (not recommended)". Of course, you probably shouldn't do this to some newbies PC, but this is a must-change for anyone who doesn't need Windows holding their hand at every turn of the road.
  • Download the Guide to Disabling the UIC.
